The adverse effects of sound (noise).

As everybody knows , aircraft are extremely noisy . The amount of noise depends as a rule on the size of the aircraft and its engines . Even so any noise emitted from an aircraft can have a detrimental affect on the local population . The effect can impair a child's ability at school through lack of sleep , concentration , stress and also affecting the hearing .

Human well-being in day-to-day life depends on perception of sounds. Communication through speech, sounds from other people or children, music and natural outdoor sounds are necessary for contentment in  every day life.

According to the International Programme on Chemical Safety (WHO 1994), an adverse effect of noise is defined as a change in the morphology and physiology of an organism that results in impairment of functional capacity, or an impairment of capacity to compensate for additional stress, or increases the susceptibility of an organism to the harmful effects of other environmental influences. This definition includes any temporary or long-term lowering of the physical, psychological or social functioning of humans or human organs.

The health significance of noise pollution can have specific effects:

noise-induced hearing impairment;

interference with speech communication;

disturbance of rest and sleep;

psycho-physiological,

mental-health and performance effects;

effects on residential behaviour and annoyance;

interference with intended activities.
